When I think of Australia, I usually think about the Sydney harbor, Melbourne, or the Great Barrier Reef. But there is so much more to Australia than its east coast.
The part of Australia known as the Northern Territory is where the famous Australian Outback is located. Many day trips into the Outback start from Darwin in the northern part of the territory or Alice Springs towards the middle of the country. It’s a good idea to take a guided tour, particularly one by an Aboriginal guide who can offer stories and insight into the history and folklore of the region. The rock formation known as Uluru (Ayers Rock) is world famous and the focus of many vacation packages to Australia that include a tour of the Outback in the itinerary. You can also travel by car but this can be more dangerous. There are certain areas that are off limits and certain times of the year that some parts of the Outback are inaccessible.
